Interactive Wands at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Imagine, you’re wandering through Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village, and casting spells with your own wand! This is a dream for many Harry Potter fans! Universal Studios makes this possible for muggles like us through the use of interactive wands! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort brings the Harry Potter books and movies to life through their fully immersive experience. Throughout Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, there are locations in shop windows that allow witches, wizards, and muggles alike to perform spells! In order to perform these spells, you will need to purchase an interactive wand once you arrive at the parks.

Where to Buy Your Wand

Wands can be purchased at Olivander’s in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, as well as, Wands by Gregorovich in Diagon Alley. You can also find certain wands at Universal resorts. You have the option to purchase a non-interactive wand for about $6 less, however, these are simply replica wands that will not be able to cast spells around the Wizarding World.

Interactive wands cost $49 and can be used for all of your Universal vacations in the future! I recommend buying your wand from Olivander’s in Diagon Alley like Harry did in the books and films! This will really round out your Wizarding World experience! You can also participate in the “Wand Experience” where you can watch Mr. Olivander help a witch or wizard find their wand, he might even choose you for the wand experience! Personally, the wand experience is one of my favorite memories from my first trip to the Wizarding World!

Type of Wands Available

You will have the option to choose from a character replica wand or a more unique wand style that will feel like your own. Each wand is modeled after different types of wood (they are actually made out of resin per J.K. Rowling’s request). The wand descriptions will also tell you what the core of your wand is (unicorn hair, dragon heartstring, and phoenix feather). You can find replica wands for just about every major character you can think of.

Casting Spells

Once you purchase your wand you are free to begin casting spells all over the Wizarding World. Inside your wand box, you will find a map of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade with the locations you can do magic. There are also emblems on the ground that mark the various interactive wand locations. You can find several hidden spots to perform magic as well, just look very closely in the store windows for the sensor with three lights.

The key to perfecting your spell casting is to aim directly in front of you and use small wrist movements, not large arm movements. If you are unable to perfect your spell casting there are several witches and wizards placed around the park to help you and give you a few pointers on your magic.

Wand Repair

If your magic every seems to be particularly difficult a nearby witch or wizard may suggest that you take your wand in for repair. To do this all you need to do is take your wand to Olivander’s. A staff member will take your wand into the back and quickly repair your wand. Olivander’s will always replace a defective wand even if it is several years old.
